30 Days of Thanks | Day 2 – My Job

I don’t particularly enjoy having to stay late at work.  I don’t enjoy patients yelling at me when their doctors are running behind.  I don’t enjoy cleaning up my messy, paper-ridden desk at work after a busy day.  I don’t enjoy missing dinner with my son.  With that said,  I am thankful that I have a job, and a good one at that.  I work with amazing people and am one small part of a team that can change people’s lives.  It’s so easy to get frustrated, but then I think of a phrase from one of the orthopedic surgeons that I work with, “Our worst day is someone else’s best day.”  When you put it like that, all the trivial stuff goes away.  There are people that we help on a daily basis.  Today I am reminded of one of our patients.  She is celebrating her 18th birthday today because of an amazing team that was able to save her life.  Even though she went through a major operation to help rid her of a cancerous tumor and had to have her leg amputated, she continues to smile and keep living her life.  She is an inspiration to everyone who meets her.  So at the end of a busy day, it was all worth it and I am thankful for my job 🙂
