Last year, my son participated in the Inaugural Gamehaven True Cross Country Run to benefit the Gamehaven Boy Scout Council in Rochester, MN. As the name implies, it was a “true cross country” race as the participants navigated a 5 mile course over some rough and muddy terrain including through, yes through, two river crossings! Rain and snow prior to the event did not deter the participants from showing thier full support. Runners braved the muddy course in freezing temperatures. Some even wore crazy costumes and kilts! It was all worth it in the end when the money was going to a good cause and you could warm up after the race with plenty of hot chocolate and chicken noodle soup! These are my photos from last year’s event. What you can’t see is that James is completely soaked by the third photo from the waste down including wet arms (you can see that his under armor is much darker than the start of the race.)
The race is back and better than ever! They have done a great job marketing the race and have invited all of the area cross country teams to participate. They even added a costume contest where the winning team receives a pizza party! We are prepared to see some crazy outfits this weekend as we cheer on the runners! KC Reed, the organizer for the event, has started a blog for the race. You can check it out here: Gamehaven True Cross Country Run Check out the photo on the front page of the blog to see the crazy mud puddles they had to run through! It’s not too late to sign up if you are interested in braving the elements yourself….freezin’ for a reason!
