Nothing can make you more proud as a parent than seeing your child grow up to be compassionate and kind. Well, the boys on the varsity cross country team in Stewartville are just that. They received teal laces from their coaches to support the Tie it Teal campaign for the Minnesota Ovarian Cancer Alliance (MOCA). They didn’t skip a beat. They swapped out their cool laces showing their unique personalities for these matching teal laces supporting an important cause. They were sporting them at their cross country race the very next day. Why? Because they have mothers, grandmothers, sisters, aunts and girlfriends!
Tie it Teal is MOCA’s new campaign to show support for those affected by Ovarian Cancer and bring awareness of the symptoms of this disease. Did you know that Ovarian Cancer is the deadliest of all gynecologic cancers and there is no reliable screening test?!! Nearly 400 women from Minnesota and 15,000 women nationally will die from Ovarian Cancer this year alone.
As with any form of Cancer, early detection is key. If you have the following symptoms persistently for three weeks or more, please take action:
- Pelvic or Abdominal Pain
- Difficulty eating or feeling full quickly
- Urinary symptoms (urgency or frequency)
September marks Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month and MOCA is encouraging people to wear the teal laces to spread awareness!!! You can get involved by visiting their website at www.tieitteal.org. You can also learn more about Ovarian Cancer by visiting the MN Ovarian Cancer Alliance website at http://mnovarian.org/.
