Rochester MN Senior Photographer | Downtown Urban Portraits

I had a great time getting to know Mayo High School student, athlete and musician during his downtown Rochester MN Senior Portrait Session!  Phillip is a totally laid back and comfortable in his own skin 🙂  We had fun exploring some of the downtown scenery and urban hot spots.

You would never guess what this red backdrop is…..a garbage container!  What I see as a professional photographer is much different that what most people see.  I knew that Phillip, with his black dressy ensemble, would stand out against the great color and texture of the garbage container.  We definitely were making the most out of cool nooks and crannies that would be completely overlooked by others.  Red urban texture senior guy in black
Of course, no downtown shoot would be complete without stopping in front of City Market.  We even ran into Phillip’s father completely at random while we were shooting in front of the Half Barrel.  Just goes to show how small Rochester really is 🙂

If you know Phillip, the photos below totally capture his everyday mannerisms 🙂  He definitley loves to laugh and have fun and he’s frequently running his fingers through his hair!

This old piano, seen below, has been floating around downtown Rochester for quite some time now.  I think they found the perfect sport for it in front of the painted mural along 1st Avenue.  When photographing subjects in public, you are always aware that people are watching what you do and may approach you and your clients.  During Phillip’s session, we were approached multiple times by a gentleman that was very interested in what we were doing.  Phillip was super kind and even posed for a couple of photos with the gentleman.  It definitely made for an interesting story!
