Run Kendall Run | Rochester MN Senior Photographer

Kendall loves to run and she comes from a family of runners.  Her father first saw my work when I created a unique running image of Travis seen HERE.  While I don’t run myself, my son is a high school and collegiate runner so you tend to move in the same circles and it seems our families have a lot in common 🙂

Our pre-session consult turned into a 2+ hour gabfest about all things running and I had the great opportunity to not only help Kendall select the perfect outfits for her session, but to get to know her and her Mom better.  Kendall is a proud member of the Mayo High School cross country and track teams.  While Kendall is super modest about her ability to run with the best, her mom shared that she didn’t quite pick up the running bug until a little later.

Kendall and her mom found the perfect local makeup artist for her session.  She was super reasonable and gave her a very natural, polished look for her portraits.  If you are looking to add hair and makeup to your session, I would be happy to pass along her contact information!

We started with this little hideaway park in Rochester with Kendall’s go-to everyday look.  Leggings and chucks 🙂  Then we ventured downtown Rochester for her next outfit with this adorable lace peplum top on Historic Third.  Kendall drew lots of attention from the people walking the streets!  Next stop was this gorgeous garden which gave us a variety of backdrops from tall grasses, to beautiful flowers and even unique fencing.

This was also the perfect spot to photograph one of Kendall’s biggest requests…the glitter blow!  We had so much fun and documented the action on video and via camera in between so many laughs!  Don’t worry, we laid a sheet down to catch all the glitter and keep this area pristine <3  Our last location of the evening was a hill at the southeast side of town which gave us a nice slice of the beautiful sunset in the sky between the trees.

When you run as much as Kendall does, you collect many awards, ribbons and medals along the way.  She has so many, she was barely able to keep her arms up!  It was quite the work out for her!

We found another evening to meet at the Mayo High School track to showcase her next running sport, track.  Mayo got a new field and this Spartan green track so we had to wait to until it was completed to get on it, but it was well worth the wait.  Kendall was a trooper even though the football team was there practicing during the start of our session!  LOL!  A few of the guys and coaches wanted to jump in on our pictures.

If you have ever seen Kendall run, you know she has a signature look….dutch braids.  Of course, we had to get some images of her looking fierce with her braids!  The competition definitely better watch out.  Kendall looks as sweet as can be, but when she laces up those spikes, she’s a major force to be reckoned with!

Fun Urban Senior Portraits

I love it when families come back to me for senior portraits a second, third time or more.  You may recognize Amy as the dynamic younger sister to Chrissy.  You can see her senior pics HERE!  I have known this family for years so it was fun to get to spend more time getting to know Amy better and what is completely special to her.  I definitely try to make sibling sessions completely different 🙂

Amy describes herself as casual, outdoorsy, adventurous and someone who loves to laugh.  She is definitely someone you can hang out with and have nothing, but fun!  We started Amy’s senior pics with some ring light head shots, then drove into Rochester, MN for an urban photo session hitting some new spots and a couple of favorites as well.

I have to mention that it was about one bazillion degrees for Amy’s senior photos, but you can’t tell by looking at her.  She is a rock star when it comes to going with the flow and handling whatever life throws at her, even the hottest, most humid weather of the year, topped off with a little rain.  LOL!

For her urban portraits, we took refuge under the overhangs of buildings, in parking garages and cool elevators for a completely different look.  We did have to wait out a heavier rain shower, but it was the perfect opportunity to break for a little snack.  We were even blessed with a gorgeous rainbow and cooler temps after!  Not to mention some great puddles for an edgy urban volleyball shot.

Many of my seniors opt for the Elite session because it gives them more time and the ability to take pictures on different dates, urban vs nature locations or adding sports sessions on to their experience.  That was perfect for incorporating a pet into her session and giving Amy a different look with straight hair.  Amy and her older sister Chrissy fight over who their dog, Millie, loves more.  I don’t know.  It’s a toss up, but Amy was sure feeling the love during her pet pics.

We stuck around for more volleyball pics and some of my favorite silhouette images to date!  I really loved her older sister’s running silhouettes, but the color gradient in the sky for Amy’s awesome volleyball silhouettes was perfection <3

Stewartville MN Senior | Eagle Scout, Musician, Car Enthusiast

I met Jacob and his mom over ice-cream at Flapdoodles and quickly learned how accomplished this quiet, young man is!  Jacob is an Eagle Scout.  I have tremendous respect for the amount of work and dedication that it takes to reach the pinnacle of Scouting.  Of course, his love for service and his country paired well with a Senior session starting at the Veteran’s Memorial in Rochester, MN.  We wanted to document and showcase his impressive achievements and uniform that he has worn so proudly since a young boy.

After an outfit change, we stuck around the park to capture some more casual images of Jacob.  It was easy to get him to smile since his girlfriend stopped by to join in on the fun during his Senior pics 🙂

Next, we stopped by the Gonda Building for head shots.  This is always a great option for someone interested in outdoor photos, but wants the option of dressier Senior images.  I even got Jacob to showcase his musical talents with some gorgeous tones from his clarinet.  He felt a little silly at first, but definitely received major kudos for his ability to play so well!  It was definitely a cool moment for sure.

During the past year, I have been looking for ways to bring in reflections into my Senior portrait sessions, because two is always better than one.  I love this serious urban look in black and white of Jacob.  After a few more downtown locations, we hit the road to photograph the thing that gets him most excited to talk about….his car!  Jacob works at Rochester Ford and has a major love for all things automotive.  He confessed that he got into an accident with his previous ride, but was super amped for this blue Subaru with gold rims.  Definitely an eye catching car if I ever saw one!

Finally, Jacob’s dad met us in our final location with their gorgeous family dog.  I love photographing pets with my seniors and this was no exception.  Goldens are the sweetest dogs <3

No senior session is complete without finding a way for me to squeeze in some sort of silhouette.   I was happy to be able to capture this great image of Jacob with his clarinet.  The perfect way to cap off his senior photos!  Best of luck to Jacob as he heads off to college to study engineering!

Minnesota Newborn Photographer

It’s always fun to see a family welcome a newborn baby into the mix.  Going from a single couple to a family of three is a huge change.  Just when a couple thinks they can’t love each other more, newborns expand that love times a million!

Little Easton was one of the longest babies I have photographed.  You could this little newborn was breach in the womb because he was so flexible.  I wouldn’t recommend the froggy pose for every newborn, but Easton was completely comfortable in every way we posted him.  As you can see, he’s one happy, laid back little dude….until it comes time to sleeping for his mama 😉

His parents share a love for hockey and his dad played for St. Thomas in college.  Since he’s from Pennsylvania and mom is from Minnesota, it was only fair to feature both of their favorite teams with these custom newborn props that were handmade for them.  I just love the little ice skates!  Clearly, Easton felt the same way…just look that sweet little newborn smile <3

We capped off his session with some images with his elephant pillow.  Mom intends to take monthly milestone photos with it so it will be fun to see him grow from a tiny newborn to a rambunctious toddler!

Minnesota Newborn and Family Photographer

How adorable is this family of five?!  You may remember them from Nora’s Newborn Session from two years ago when they were just adding a second girl to the family.  Gosh, time flies and the girls are already so grown up.  That’s why it’s so important to document your changing family.

We again kept to neutral tones to keep the focus on the family and keep the newborn images timeless.  I love how the girls have a pop of color in their outfits.  Brogan’s nursery has an awesome wood wall that dad built, plus a focus on deer, antlers and all things natural.  The warm brown images and the wooden details mesh with their decor.   We did capture the adorable gray bonnet and bear for Brogan just like we did for his sister Nora.

Brogan is the little chunk of the family and I can’t get enough of his squishy cheeks and rolls!  He’s absolutely perfect in every way <3  This little boy is definitely outnumbered, but no doubt he will be able to hold his own!  No doubt that dad is happy to finally have another boy in the family too 🙂
